24-48 hoursUdyam Registration is India's official Aadhaar-based MSME recognition system, launched by the Ministry of MSME on July 1, 2020. It replaced the older Udyog Aadhar system, integrating directly with PAN, GSTIN, and IT databases.
Upon approval, your business receives a 19-digit Udyam Registration Number (URN) and a digitally-signed certificate with a QR code. The certificate has lifetime validity — no annual renewal is required.
Udyam Aadhar emphasizes the Aadhaar-based nature of the process. Whether you spell it Udyam Aadhaar, Udyam Aadhar, or simply Udyam — they all refer to the same official scheme on udyamregistration.gov.in. The "Aadhar" vs "Aadhaar" spelling difference has no legal meaning; it is simply a transliteration variant.
Quick fact: Previously known as Udyog Aadhar, the current Udyam system uses Aadhaar + PAN and auto-fetches business turnover from GST records. Learn about Udyog Aadhar migration →
Any Indian business that qualifies as Micro, Small, or Medium Enterprise (MSME) should complete the process. This includes:
An active Udyam certificate is essential for accessing collateral-free CGTMSE loans, MSME subsidies, government tenders, GeM marketplace, and legal protection against delayed payments under the MSMED Act. See all 15+ benefits →
The only legitimate portal is udyamregistration.gov.in, run by the Ministry of MSME. Here is what you will find there and how to navigate it without getting lost.
The Udyam portal is the single official channel for Udyam Aadhar Registration in India. It integrates live with CBDT (for PAN), GSTN (for turnover data), and UIDAI (for Aadhaar). No other website issues a valid certificate — anything else you find online is a private consultancy service like ours that helps you complete Udyam Registration online without the portal headaches.
The portal has six main menu options: New Registration, UAM Holders Migration, Print Certificate, Verify Certificate, Update Details, and Cancel Registration. Each serves a different part of the lifecycle. Most first-time visitors only need the first option.
A common confusion: the portal looks spare. There is no dashboard, no login for new users, no "save draft" button. Everything happens in one uninterrupted flow — once you start, you must finish within the session, or the OTP expires and you restart from scratch.
Before we file on the portal for you, we pre-validate these five things so the submission succeeds on the first attempt. Share your details — we handle the portal →
Sharing your Aadhaar with anyone online is a real concern. Here is exactly what happens to your number and OTP — in plain language, with no jargon.
When the portal sends an OTP to your registered mobile, our specialist calls or messages you on WhatsApp to read it back. We never ask you to type it into a third-party form.
The OTP is entered on udyamregistration.gov.in within seconds of you sharing it. It expires in 10 minutes regardless. We do not save the OTP anywhere — not in chat, email, or our records.
Your Aadhaar, PAN, and other details are stored on access-controlled servers and used solely to file your Udyam Registration on udyamregistration.gov.in. We never share them with marketing partners, data brokers, or any third party.
We do not share your Aadhaar, PAN, mobile, or business details with any third party — no marketing partners, no data brokers, no resellers. The data is used only to file your Udyam Registration on the official portal.
The OTP arrives on your mobile (the one linked to your Aadhaar). You decide whether to share it. If you change your mind, the application stops — no OTP, no filing.
Every form submission on this site uses HTTPS with 256-bit SSL encryption (the same standard banks use). Cashfree handles your card and UPI data — we never see it.
If anything about this feels unclear, message us on WhatsApp before paying. We would rather answer your questions than rush a filing.
Every successful application produces a 19-digit URN. Here is what the number means, where you will see it, and when you actually need to quote it.
Your URN follows the pattern UDYAM-XX-00-0000000. Each segment encodes real information:
So a Surat-based proprietorship might receive UDYAM-GJ-24-0012345. A Kolkata manufacturer might receive UDYAM-WB-19-0078912. The URN is permanent — it follows your business for its entire life. Read the full breakdown of every URN segment and what it tells banks about your enterprise →
Your URN is quoted in almost every MSME benefit application:
Lose your URN? You cannot regenerate a new one, but you can recover it by entering your Aadhaar on the status check page.
Udyam Registration online is completely paperless — no scanned uploads, no photocopies, no attestations. But you do need the following information in hand before you start the application.
Heads up: If the portal asks for a document upload, you are on a fake Udyam site. The real government portal never requests a file upload — every piece of information is entered via form fields and verified electronically.
Check whether your business qualifies as Micro, Small, or Medium enterprise based on current criteria.
| Category | Investment in Plant & Machinery | Annual Turnover | Typical Business Types |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | Up to ₹2.5 Crore | Up to ₹10 Crore | Home businesses, freelancers, small shops, sole traders |
| Small | Up to ₹25 Crore | Up to ₹100 Crore | Growing businesses, service companies, small manufacturers |
| Medium | Up to ₹125 Crore | Up to ₹500 Crore | Mid-size manufacturers, established companies, exporters |
Note: Classification uses BOTH investment AND turnover — if a business crosses either limit, it moves to the higher category. Trading businesses are also eligible. Revised limits effective April 1, 2025.

Everything you need to know about Udyam Aadhaar Registration — also called Udyam Aadhar online — and how to file it without portal errors.
Udyam Registration is the official Aadhaar-based MSME recognition system launched by the Ministry of MSME on July 1, 2020. It issues a unique 19-digit Udyam Registration Number (URN) and a digitally-signed certificate with lifetime validity. It replaced the older Udyog Aadhar system.
Udyam Aadhar Registration (also written as Udyam Aadhaar Registration) is the Aadhaar-based MSME registration process conducted on udyamregistration.gov.in. It uses your Aadhaar number as the primary identity document. The process is fully paperless — no document uploads required, and it can be done online from anywhere in India.
With our expert-assisted service, your Udyam certificate is typically delivered within 24-48 hours, depending on government portal availability. Self-registration on the government portal can take anywhere from a few hours to several days depending on OTP issues and portal load.
No documents need to be uploaded. You need: Aadhaar (linked to active mobile), PAN card, GSTIN (if applicable), and basic business details like address and activity type.
Your Udyam Aadhaar certificate is valid for the lifetime of your business. No annual renewal required. Updates (address, turnover) can be made anytime through the portal.

Yes. You can update address, turnover, contact details, bank information, and business activity through the portal at any time. Major structural changes (entity type) may require re-registration.
Udyog Aadhar was the old system (2015-2020) issuing a 12-digit UAM number without PAN/GST integration. Udyam replaced it on July 1, 2020, with 19-digit URN, QR-enabled certificate, and auto-fetch of turnover from GST. Old Udyog Aadhar certificates expired on March 31, 2021. Migration guide →
On the official portal udyamregistration.gov.in, the filing is completely free — zero government fees. Private advisory services (like ours) charge a separate one-time fee for handling the portal work and preventing rejection-level mistakes. Our advisory fee is transparently shown on the filing form — no subscription, no hidden charges, no government fee layered on top.
Yes. Aadhaar is the primary identity document and cannot be substituted with PAN, Voter ID, or Driving Licence. For proprietorships, the proprietor's personal Aadhaar is used. For partnerships and LLPs, the managing partner's Aadhaar. For Private Limited companies, the authorised signatory's Aadhaar. Your Aadhaar must be linked to an active mobile number because the whole flow depends on OTP verification.
NIC (National Industrial Classification) code is a 5-digit number that describes your primary business activity. The portal uses the NIC 2008 revision. Picking the wrong NIC code has downstream consequences — banks reject CGTMSE applications, GeM sellers get blocked from specific tender categories, and classification as manufacturing vs services can change your subsidy eligibility. We spend ~5 minutes per application confirming the correct NIC code before we submit.
Yes, and proprietorships are the largest single category — probably 60% of all applications. A sole proprietor uses personal Aadhaar and personal PAN. No separate entity PAN is needed. The certificate unlocks the same CGTMSE loans, MSME subsidies, and government tender access available to larger entities. See our full proprietorship guide for PAN/GST threshold rules.
The 3 most common rejection reasons are: (1) the name on your PAN differs from the name on your Aadhaar by even one character or space, (2) the Aadhaar-linked mobile number no longer receives OTPs, and (3) the NIC code picked does not match the business activity described in your GST registration. Fix the underlying mismatch first (visit the Aadhaar seva kendra or e-filing portal to update names), then re-apply. Rejected applications do not block future attempts — there is no cooling-off period.
No. The rule under the MSMED Act is one Aadhaar, one Udyam Registration. If you own three businesses as the same proprietor, all three must be registered under a single Udyam number and the aggregate turnover is what classifies you as Micro, Small, or Medium. However, if the second business is under a different legal entity (partnership, company) with a different authorised signatory, that entity can have its own separate certificate.
GSTIN is not mandatory for all businesses — only those that are already GST-registered, or those required to be GST-registered under the GST Act (turnover above ₹40 lakh for goods, ₹20 lakh for services in most states). A small proprietor earning ₹15 lakh/year does not need GST and therefore does not need to provide a GSTIN. If you do have a GSTIN, the portal auto-fetches turnover from GST returns — so the Investment and Turnover fields fill themselves.
Go to udyamregistration.gov.in → "Print/Verify" → enter your URN or Aadhaar → complete OTP verification → download the PDF certificate. The certificate has a QR code for instant verification. We cover the full process with screenshots on our Udyam Certificate page →
Yes. The OTP is collected only by phone or WhatsApp, used once on the official portal, and never stored.
